Colour Management and ICC Profiles

The recommended colour working space is Adobe RGB 1998 for digital photographic output (Lightjet) and CMYK SWOP Coated 20% for digital ink based output (Inkjet, Solvent). All pixel-based files must be saved as CMYK or RGB as a flattened TIFF file. Black and white images should be saved as grayscale.

Whenever possible, please embed the colour profile that you are working in. Embedding an ICC profile “tags” the colour information to the file when you export or save it. This is helpful because it provides us with a more accurate starting point.

Resolution

The resolution required to produce your print depends on many factors such as the output device, the material to be printed on, viewing distance, etc. The following table can be used as a guideline.

Process Min DPI * Max DPI
Lightjet Printing 100 300
Inkjet Printing 80 600
Solvent Printing 80 720, 1440
* = Minimum DPI before any noticeable decline in quality

Thnigs to Remember

  • When submitting your files, please convert all text to outlines or curves.
  • Please provide a hardcopy colour proof
  • If you are requesting that Colorific prepare and insert any high resolution scans into your files, please provide low resolution scans for position.
  • Avoid the use of key lines around the outside edge of the document unless you want them to print in the final. Instead, please add proportional crop marks to your files and give bleed. This is especially important if we are laminating and mounting your prints or if rod pockets are needed for hanging a banner.
